AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER CLUB OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
BUYERS BEWARE
Pure Bred American Staffordshire Terriers come with two types of papers - Main Register or Limited Register.  These are issued by your State's Canine controlling body - in the case of Western Australia the Canine Association of Western Australia now also known as Dogs West.  Both sets of papers have the Australian National Kennel Control (ANKC) stamp on the bottom right hand corner.

The Limited Register is for dogs sold as a pet - i.e. not to be shown, nor bred from.  The Limited Papers CAN be upgraded to Main Register on agreement between the breeder and the buyer.  If you as a buyer DO breed from a dog with these Limited papers the resultant progeny CAN NOT be registered as a pure bred dog.

The Main Register enables a dog to be shown at Conformation Shows and to be bred from, (obviously to another dog of the same breed on the Main Register!), thereby enabling the breeder to register the progeny as pure bred dogs.

If you are looking to purchase an American Staffordshire Terrier, whether it be as a companion, show, or obedience dog, PLEASE ask breeders of the dog you are looking at to provide proof of BOTH parents' registration as a PURE BRED AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER - if they can not do so, you are NOT getting an Am Staff.

If you are unsure please either contact the Canine Association or any of the members of the Club listed on Our Club page.
